Jackson County Democrats Have tough time choosing new leader

KANSAS CITY - Jackson County Democrats had a tough time picking a new leader this week. Party members gathered to vote on a new chairman, but the vote tied 40-40 between the incumbent, Darrell Curls, and a challenger, Phil LeVota.

So they voted a second time. The result? Another 40-40 tie. They say three's a charm, but the third time around -- another tie. This time 39-39. Democrats finally threw in the towel and agreed on a compromise. Curls will stay in office until the November election. LeVota will finish out the two-year term.
