On The Passing of Chief Justice William Rehnquist

We are watching our country change around us in ways that may not be good now. Chief Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist has died on Saturday, September 3, 2005. This now gives Bush a chance to nominate another Supreme Court Justice as well as a new Chief Justice.Judging from the choices Bush has made concerning certian areas of law and justice since his first Presidency suggest that we are in for a rough ride. Personal and civil rights such as privacy are most likely going to be foreshortened further than even the Patriot Act could have done. The rights to choose how and who to love and also to believe how we wish is going to come under fire. Bush is so entangled with the Christian Right that those of us who believe differently and follow different paths are going to be attacked by law and by justice. I can only hope the people will rise up to prevent true damage but, by looking at the results of our last election, I fear we are going to turn into a society almost as oppressive as the Taliban once was. May it not happen, but please, do not be silent! We have to speak up or our rights will dissappear! May Rehnquist rest in peace and not see the country he helped to form into a great nation change into a ruin!
